OLDHAM College welcomed seven German exchange students who are visiting the town as part of their studies.

Three design students and four IT students have travelled from Aachen, in Germany, to discover what college education is like in the borough and to improve their English.

The design students, who fly home on Sunday, have spent the past three weeks creating art projects based on the theme British Values while the IT students, who are in their first week of study of three, will test their technical knowledge working with hardware and software systems.

Oldham College established a link with the BK GuT vocational college after tutors came over for a visit in November 2015.

Alun Francis, principal and chief executive, said: "Staff from the German college came to visit us to look at English technical education in a British establishment but we also learned a lot from them.

"The German technical system is one that many countries want to follow, and in Germany many students attend a technical college rather than go to university.

"We want to have really good technical routes for our students and partnering with the college in Germany is part of our development works.

"It is a great experience for students to study in another country.

"We can see the benefits the German students have gained from being in Oldham and we'd like to have the same for ours."
