SHARP bend . . . between Westwood and Freehold
Horrified passengers said they were forced to wipe glass out of their eyes after vandals threw a rock through a tram window.
A yob hurled the missile when the tram was near to the Freehold stop on the Oldham line.
A window, next to where a young girl was sitting, shattered and left travellers covered in glass.
Witnesses said they could see a rock rolling on the floor following the attack.
There have been no reports of any serious injuries and police have launched an investigation, following the incident just before 9pm on Wednesday.
Eyewitness Michael Devereux said: "I got covered in shards of broken glass and an eye full of glass dust.
"I'm sure others in the carriage did too. There was a 16-year-old sitting at that window, so I guess it could have been worse. I'm not surprised drivers don't want to take this route."
He added he had to wash glass out of his eyes following the incident.
A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said oficers were called to the Freehold Metrolink stop, off Block Lane, at 9.25pm to reports of damage to a tram.
