Crashes mar Easter weekend on the roads

A SERIES of crashes in and around Oldham disrupted traffic flow over the Easter weekend.

Yesterday, a car flipped on to its side after colliding with a bollard and traffic lights near the M60 Oldham slip road.

The woman driving the BMW X5 was left shocked but not injured after the traffic lights on Manchester Road, Hollinwood, were flattened at about 2pm yesterday.

A group of men rolled the vehicle back on to its wheels, according to a women who witnessed the accident. The driver was then seen walking after exiting the car.

Emergency services were called and a police presence was seen at the site two hours after the crash.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to reports a BMW X5 had rolled on to the wrong side.

"The traffic lights were knocked over. The female driver was in shock but was not injured.

"The car had crashed into a bollard and there was debris on the road."

On Easter Sunday, a car crash resulted in debris and wreckage across a busy Oldham junction.

Two cars were severely damaged after a collision in St Mary's Way.

Emergency services were called to the incident at the junction with Rochdale Road just before 2pm.

A silver Citroen C5 and grey Vauxhall Astra were involved in the crash outside the Hyundai garage.

It is not known whether there were any injuries.

An ambulance crew were at the scene just before 2pm and police arrived later.

On Good Friday, a mother and her son were involved in a two-car crash in Oldham.

Emergency services were called to Lees Road where a Clio and a BMW car had collided.

The silver Clio ended up off the road, over a wooden barrier on the corner of Moorhey Street opposite the Shell garage.

Police said there were no injuries following the incident which happened at about 5.30pm.

A witness said: "I was waiting to come out of the junction when the smash happened.

"When the woman got out of her car she looked pretty shaken and a lot of people ran to her aid.

"When she pulled her little boy out of the back he looked confused and was crying."

Also on Good Friday, motorists experienced long delays after a three-vehicle crash on the M62.

The incident occurred at lunchtime between junction 19 at Heywood and junction 20 for A627(M) Oldham and Rochdale.

Delays of about an hour were experienced by drivers on the westbound carriageway while emergency crews attended the scene.

One lane remained closed while the vehicles were moved, but all lanes were reopened by 1.45pm.

It is not known whether there were any injuries.
