OLDHAM has found success at a national care awards after a resident was praised for her contribution to fostering.

Bev Burston and her husband Joe have been fostering for more than 14 years.

Their outstanding efforts were recognised at the Towergate Care Awards, hosted by TV presenter and actress Denise Van Outen.

Bev was awarded Fostering Contribution of the Year ahead of hundreds of applicants. The category upholds foster carers who welcome children into their families, giving them the best care possible during difficult circumstances.

Bev said: "When I heard my name read out I was thrilled and very emotional. This award means so much to me and acknowledges all the support I have received from friends and family. This is an award which myself and my husband Joe will always treasure.

"I can't think of a better thing in life to be doing than fostering - it is the most rewarding job I have ever done."

Bev and Joe have overcome several personal setbacks so they can continue to provide a safe and loving home for children who need it most.

The Towergate awards also hailed Bev for offering support and advice to other less experienced foster carers.

She was one of 27 finalists who received a trophy and a Red Letter Day voucher during the awards ceremony at the Dorchester Hotel, London, on March 23.

Kirsty Wainwright-Noble of Towergate said: "Bev's story stood out and really touched all of the judges. She demonstrates such selflessness and commitment to fostering so is truly deserving of this award and I would like to congratulate her on her accolade.

"Towergate has a long-standing relationship with many care organisations across the country, and it was a great pleasure to meet Bev and present her with her award."
