A FUNDRAISING event will take place to help stop other families going through the heartache endured by relatives of dancing angel Layla-Rose Ermenekli.

The six-year-old Oasis Academy Limeside pupil died suddenly in February after contracting meningococcal meningitis.

Now her family are doing everything in their power to raise funds for Meningitis Now - a charity fighting the disease which took her life.

A tea party complete with an auction, bouncy castle, raffle, tombola and face painting is lined up for the event on Saturday.

An open invitation is extended to residents, with more than 100 people already expected to turn out at the Britannia Tavern, Hollins Road, from noon.

Heartache

Cousin Nicole Shorrocks said: "I am organising this fundraiser to stop other families going through the heartache we are and to raise as much money as we can to help an amazing charity.

"Layla-Rose meant the world to me. She was like my little sidekick, she wanted to be everywhere I was. She was such a happy little girl and never let anything faze her, with the most amazing personality.

"Unfortunately, no amount of money can bring Layla back, but it can go a long way towards saving the lives of others."

The family thanked generous businesses across Oldham for donating prizes for the auction to raise funds. Several T-shirts have been manufactured for the day by Layla-Rose's great-uncle Stephen Carter.
