A FUNDRAISING event was held to help a family in their efforts to secure life-saving treatment for their five-year-old boy.

Kind-hearted Andrew Taylor (56), who has a rare bone disease, organised the event in aid of Joshua Burns-Adair at Waterhead Rugby Club.

As reported in the Chronicle, Joshua was given just a one in 56 million chance of being born alive.

He was diagnosed with Jeunes Thoracic Dystrophy at birth which causes his rib cage to grow at a slower rate than the rest of his body. His family are desperately trying to raise £1.5 million so Joshua can receive treatment in America.

Fantastic

With help from friends at St Edward's R C Church in Lees, Andrew organised a pie supper, music by Gerry Kearns and fellow musicians, stand-up bingo, play your cards right and a raffle.

Andrew, from Holts Estate, said: "Thank you to all those who came on Friday.

"The event was fantastic - we have raised more than £500 and there are lots of donations still to come in.

"We hope this goes some way in helping Joshua. I don't believe people should have to suffer the way they do and I think people should help each other."

Around 70 residents turned out for the evening event where a cheque was handed over to Joshua's family.

Wonderful

His mum Amanda Burns said: "It was a wonderful evening. Everyone was fantastic and they really looked after us. They were all truly amazing, especially Andrew who organised the whole evening. We are very thankful to everyone for all their kindness and support."
