Delays on motorway

MOTORISTS faced major delays yesterday when police closed a section of the M62.

The carriageway was closed in both directions between junction 18 at Simister Island and junction 19 at Heywood after a woman was seen on a bridge around 1pm.

There were tailbacks to junction 14 on the eastbound carriageway and junction 20 on the westbound carriageway.

It was reopened from 3pm but delays continued.

The kick-off in the Oldham against Rochdale Hornets rugby league match was delayed for 50 minutes.

Police helped the woman down safely.
