Gran-gnam Style

ALL eyes and ears were on Specsavers in Oldham this week for a geriatric Gangnam Style performance.

Shocked shoppers saw a trio of grey-haired pensioners suddenly begin twerking and grooving to the tunes of Flo Rida, rapper T Pain and Psy's Gangnam Style outside the Curzon Street store on Monday.

Despite their home-knits and paediatric shoes, the ladies busted some impressive moves as part of a Specsavers promotional campaign to raise awareness of its hear testing service.

The Dancing Grannies - who, beneath the wigs and padding, are actors from the theatre company Fizzog Productions - also appeared at the Royton store as part of Hearcare Awareness Day.

There was also a giant ear handing out goody bags to passers-by and, inside the store, there were home bakes and a raffle in aid of the charity Action on Hearing Loss.

Catherine Hughes, Oldham store director, said: "This was about raising awareness that Specsavers is now working with hearing as well as sight and we offer a service for private patients as well as NHS.

"It tends to be older people who have their hearing tested, but we offer a free hearing test to anyone aged over 18 and its something which should be checked in the same way as sight.

"Following on from these promotions, we know more people are now aware its available and have been telling relatives. It's great we've managed to achieve that."
