OLDHAM Athletic's youth team have highlighted a campaign which raises awareness about skin cancer.

The squad queued up to be screened for melanoma at an event which was co-organised by the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) and Melanoma UK.

Team captain Dylan King was in line to be screened for melanoma - a type of skin cancer that can spread to other organs.

Since the PFA partnered with skin cancer charity Melanoma UK support has been provided to clubs across the country. The partnership marked the charity's support of the PFA's Paul Futcher Fund which was set up following the death of the former Latics, Barnsley and Grimsby defender in November, 2016.

At the event Melanoma UK told players about the dangers of skin cancer and how to check for irregularities.

Melanoma is on the increase in the UK with over 14,000 cases diagnosed in 2015.

Clubs can get involved by contacting the PFA or by contacting Melanoma UK on 0808-171 2455 or gillian.nuttall@melanomauk.org.uk
