POLICE are appealing for witnesses after shots were fired at a house in Hathershaw.
A group of up to 12 men had arrived at the property in Wellbank Close in two cars at about 10.30pm on Wednesday and banged on the front door.
They left, but returned shortly after 1am on Thursday and shots were fired at the house causing damage to an upstairs window.
Police have launched an investigation and are appealing for anyone who saw the two cars, a blue VW Golf and a dark Peugeot or possibly a Fiat, leaving the area shortly after 1am and turning into Meldrum Street and then Honeywell Lane.
The men are described as Asian and police are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
Terrified
Detective Inspector Kenny Blain, of GMP's Oldham Borough, said: "Fortunately, no-one was hurt, but the woman, who was sleeping upstairs at the time was understandably terrified when shots were fired at the house.
"We believe this was a targeted attack and I'm appealing to anyone who saw the incident or either vehicle in the area at the time to contact us.
"I want to reassure the community that a team of officers is working on this case and we have increased patrols in the area."
Anyone with any information should contact police on 0161-856 9063 or 101 quoting incident numbers 76 of 16/02/17 or anonymously, via the independent charity Crimestoppers, on 0800-555 111.
