Megan Scoltock shows off her trophy
A TEENAGER has beaten-off competition from young and old to win a solo dance award for the second year running.
Megan Scoltock (15) is a member of the Pure Dance Academy in Derker and was named Contemporary Dancer of the Year at an open dance competition held recently near Wigan.
Megan, of Fontwell Lane, Derker, retained the trophy for a second year during the dance contest held at the Rose Centre in Hindley.
Megan is a Royton and Crompton School pupil and began dancing five years ago. Now she attends classes at Pure three or four times each week.
Proud mum Zarah Pauley said: "I think it's quite an achievement for Megan. To win this class two years running is really good.
"There were competitors from across the north of England and north Wales at the Hindley event.
"It was an open competition with people from lots of different dance clubs.
"This was a solo category with each dancers having to dance in their own age groups and then compete against all the other winners from each age category. So the final competitors were dancers of all ages, from under-8s to adults."
She added: "We're all really pleased for her."
Megan and other members of Pure Dance Academy have enjoyed successes at numerous contests in the past few years, including those organised by the International Dance Teachers Association at Blackpool's Winter Gardens.
