A CARE home is celebrating after receiving a "good" rating from health inspectors, just one step away from the best-possible grading.

Staff at Ashbourne House Care Home were delighted with the outcome which found their care, safety, responsiveness, effectiveness and leadership to be 'good'.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) report was released this month following a two-day unannounced inspection at the Lees New Road site.

Inspectors said in the report: "The atmosphere at the home was welcoming and vibrant. The strong consensus of opinion from people who used the service, relatives and external stakeholders was that staff always behaved patiently and in a dedicated manner. We observed people who used the service interacting with staff in a relaxed and comfortable manner.

Safe

"There were sufficient numbers of staff on duty to safely meet the needs of people who used the service. Staff demonstrated a good knowledge of safeguarding principles and what they would do should they have any concerns. People who used the service and their relatives confirmed they felt safe."

Praise was given for the person-centred care plans for the 31 people residing at the home as well as in-house entertainment, parties and other group activities. A "strong team ethic" was also highlighted and most of those interviewed by the CQC were "extremely complimentary" about the registered manager and staff team.

Registered manager Michelle Maylor said: "We were very happy with the report.

"We deliver good care and it shows in the report. We needed a good because we have received a lot of flack due to the bad press surrounding Middleton's Ashbourne House Nursing Home.

"People have phoned and called us names even though it had nothing to do with us. This report reflects the hard work of those who work at our home. I was really pleased with it."
