A FORMER University Campus Oldham student is urging others to follow in his footsteps on a journey to the East.

Mofozzul Imran Choudhury from Chadderton, who runs his own catering business, took part in the Study China programme in 2011.

It gives further and higher education students aged at least 18 the opportunity to experience the life, culture and language of the country.

This year's programme takes place from April 2 to 22 at East China Normal University in Shanghai.

Students will do an intensive Chinese Mandarin course and take part in cultural workshops and trips to discover the "real China".

The Government-funded programme covers the cost of tuition, accommodation and trips. Students have to pay for flights and personal spending money, but may be eligible for financial assistance.

Applications close at noon on February 5 but people are urged to apply as early as possible.

Mr Choudhury was the first person from Oldham to take part in Study China and the only person from the borough to do the similar Study India Programme.

The former business studies teacher is happy to give advice and said: "It's a great opportunity and I really want to promote the programme, share my experience and help other people who might be interested in taking up this opportunity of a lifetime.

"The skills that you develop are really, really useful whatever you do in life."
