THIEVES donning Mexican wrestling masks were caught on camera as they tried to steal a cash machine.

The four men were captured in Mexican-style Lucha Libre masks after they pulled up outside a convenience store in Greenfield.

CCTV footage was released by Greater Manchester Police in an effort to trace them.

It shows three men arrive outside the Premier store in a blue Volkswagen Golf in the early hours of the morning.

They are soon joined by an accomplice in a white Transit van - which was stolen from Salford, police said.

Footage published on the Oldham Chronicle website shows the gang making several attempts to drag the cash machine out of the wall.

It appears one man used a crow bar to prise the ATM from the Chew Valley Road shop during the offence on December 20, 2016.

Wearing their distinctive masks they attached a length of tether to the van and tried to drive off with the machine.

After two failed failed attempts the men fled the scene in the Golf, abandoning the van nearby.

Detective Constable Mike Hayman, from Oldham's CID team, said: "We have released this CCTV footage in the hope that someone might have information about this offence.

"If you were in the area at the time or saw both the vehicles prior to the incident I would urge you to call us.

"Any information, no matter how trivial, could really help us with this investigation."
