Police seek fatal accident witnesses

POLICE investigating a fatal collision in Royton have made a fresh appeal for witnesses.

Shortly before 11pm on Thursday, December 8, 2016, 77-year-old Brian Croxon was found with serious injuries on Sandy Lane, outside the Brass Band Club.

He was taken to hospital where he sadly died.

Police launched an investigation into his death and established he was involved in a collision with a vehicle shortly before he was found.

Officers have arrested a 23-year-old woman on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, failing to stop and failing to report a collision.

She has been bailed pending further enquiries until February 20.

Officers are still keen to speak with any witnesses and, in particular, want to hear from two women who went to help Mr Croxon following the collision.

Officers believe they may have been travelling in a Vauxhall Corsa, or a similar vehicle, and may have been wearing healthcare uniforms.

Sergeant Lee Westhead, of GMP's Serious Collison Investigation Unit, said: "We have made significant progress in our investigation into this collision which tragically claimed Mr Croxon's life, but at this stage it is important we continue to make enquiries.

"I appreciate it has now been more than five weeks since the collision happened, but we would like to speak with two women who selflessly went to the aid of Mr Croxon.

"I would like to stress these women are not in any way suspected of any wrongdoing, but we believe they may have important information which could be key to our investigation."
