Doorman stabbed in savage attack

POLICE are appealing for the public's help after two doormen at a Failsworth pub were viciously attacked on Saturday night.

One of the doormen is in hospital after being stabbed at the Royal Oak on Oldham Road in an incident involving a group of men who approached the pub at 12.15am.

He was attacked with a knife after going to the aid of another doorman, and was stabbed in the head, neck and abdomen.

Police say he is lucky to be alive and his condition is described as stable.

His colleague was cut in the face after being hit with a pint glass.

During the savage assault, other people outside the pub began throwing glasses, plant pots and sandwich boards at the front door and windows, before running off.

Detectives have now released CCTV images of two men they are looking for.

The main offender is described as ?white, around 5ft 11in tall, in his late 20s or early 30s, slim with dark, short hair. He was wearing dark clothes.

The other offenders are described as white, in their 20s/30s and wearing dark clothes.

Detective Constable Kelly Bragg said: "This was a shocking and savage attack against two men who were completely unprepared for the ferocity of this assault.

"The severity of the incident was such that one of the victims is lucky to have escaped with his life.

"There were up to eight offenders involved, but we have images of two of the main culprits, including the offender with the knife.

"We need the public's help to identify these men, and anyone else who may have been involved.

"If you have any information which may assist our enquiries, please contact us as soon as possible."
