A VILE Twitter user caused outrage when he threatened to murder the children of Latics manager Stephen Robinson following the club's Boxing Day defeat to Sheffield United.

Troll Alex_Wild98 tweeted the football club at 4.53pm on Boxing Day, moments after Latics' game at Bramall Lane had ended in a 2-0 defeat for Athletic.

The threat read: "#oafc tell Stephen Robinson I'm gunna murder his children."

The Tweet didn't go unnoticed as hours later Tracey Robinson - the manager's wife - leapt to his defence.

She posted: "@Alex_Wild98 come and say that to our faces! Bet your mum is proud of you."

Within hours more Twitter users stepped in to show their support for the Robinsons as they condemned Alex_Wild98's actions with some calling for him to be banned from games and investigated by police.

Gaz Walker posted: "I can assure you all not all football fans are like this, far from it, this is vile."

Another Twitter user, Steve Hynes, posted: "Get this moron a nice long ban from Latics so he can have a good think about what he wrote."

Anthony Fitzpatrick added: "I'm annoyed that we lost but Jesus this is awful."

Chris Richard posted: "You absolutely must report this to the police."

The account Alex_Wild98 has since been suspended from Twitter.
