OLDHAM Coliseum spread the magic of pantomime at New Bridge Special School in Hollinwood.
Members of the Fairbottom Street theatre's learning engagement team ran a series of workshops for Year 7 pupils based on this year's production of Sleeping Beauty.
They found out more about how the set, costumes and props are made and took part in character development activities.
Relaxed
The workshops were funded by Sleeping Beauty's sponsors AWC Windows and Home Improvements, George Hill Timber and Building Supplies and JD Williams.
The pupils will also attend the Coliseum's first relaxed performance of its acclaimed panto on January 5. Designed for people with conditions such as autism, a learning disability or a sensory or communication disorder, it will include friendly lighting, quieter sound, no big bangs or loud noises and the opportunity to meet the actors before and after the show.
The theatre will also have specially trained staff and volunteers, a dedicated chill-out space, an art cart with crayons and pencils and bars open throughout for drinks and snacks.
Carly Henderson, head of learning and engagement at the Coliseum, said: "We have a strong relationship with New Bridge School and really enjoyed delivering the workshops with Year 7.
"They are a great way to introduce students to pantomime characters and conventions and we look forward to welcoming New Bridge in January to see Sleeping Beauty."
Sleeping Beauty runs at Oldham Coliseum until January. Tickets can be booked on 0161 624 2829 or at coliseum.org.uk.
