A 23-YEAR-OLD woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving following a suspected hit and run in Royton earlier this month.

Brian Croxon (77) died in hospital after being found with serious injuries in Sandy Lane, outside the Brass Band Club, shortly after 11pm on Thursday, December 8.

Police launched an investigation into his death and established he was involved in a collision with a vehicle shortly before he was found by a passer-by.

On Friday, officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit arrested a 23-year-old woman on suspicion of causing death by careless driving, failing to stop and failing to report a collision.

She has been bailed pending further inquiries until February 20, 2017.

Senior Investigating Officer, Sergeant Lee Westhead, from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We made an arrest in the Royton area and have also seized a car for forensic examination.

"The investigation is still very much ongoing and my team are still keen to speak to people who were on Sandy Lane the night of the collision or anyone with any information about it."

Mr Croxon was described as "well liked" and "generous" in a tribute made by his family.

Mr Croxon, who stepped down as president of the band club a few years ago after more than a decade in the role, still frequented the club in Sandy Lane regularly, taking up the same seat in the venue on each visit.
