INVESTIGATIONS are under way after an Oldham Council bin lorry driver was photographed using his mobile phone while behind the wheel at work.
The images, which were taken on Friday, November 25, show the refuse driver speaking on the phone during his rounds in Shaw.
In the series of pictures, taken at around 2.40pm by a resident, the driver is seen using his mobile phone before turning to face the camera when he notices that he is being photographed.
The resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "The driver was performing a manoeuvre in a tight space on Hawthorne Crescent, off Queen Street in Shaw."
The witness added: "The driver seemed oblivious to his wrongdoing and even attempted to deny it."
The incident is currently under investigation by both Oldham Council and the police after they were made aware of the images.
A spokesman for Oldham Council told the Chronicle: "We are aware of the incident and the matter will be thoroughly investigated with any required action being taken in line with the council's disciplinary policy.
"We take incidents of this nature very seriously.
Reported
"This matter has also been reported to the police and while their investigation is ongoing we are unable to comment further."
The council added that the resident who reported the incident has received a phone call from the council's operations manager for waste.
