AN ANIMAL rescue centre in Oldham has received thousands of well-wishes and overwhelming support for an abandoned dog in their care.

Kenny, thought to be under two years old, was taken in by Pennine Pen Animal Rescue after he was cruelly neglected and discarded in Kenyon Avenue, Hathershaw, last week.

Underweight Kenny, believed to be a type of mastiff, is awaiting results from tests relating to a serious skin condition and secondary infections.

Staff and volunteers at the animal charity are tending to the rescue's every need and posting regular updates which have been seen by thousands of residents nationwide.

Animal care assistant Emily Martin said: "He is doing well and has been giving us some little tail wags.

"He still loves his food but he is exhausted.

"He is having daily showers with medical cream but he gets very tired after standing for about 10 or 15 minutes.

"The signs are good so far so we are just hoping nothing comes back on the tests."

Videos of Kenny's progress can be found on the Oldham Chronicle website.

The centre posted on social media on Thursday: "Kenny has had us all in happy tears this morning. He is up and about, feeling stronger already.

"We have had an overwhelming response with a lot of people emailing, ringing and messaging."

Emily added: "We have had so much support from the public - more than we ever imagined.

"Donations have been pouring in as well as money, bedding and toys."
