WILL this year's Christmas number one be claimed by the winner of "The X Factor", James Corden's Sainsbury's advert song or perhaps the angelic voices of pupils at a Chadderton primary school?
St Herbert's RC Primary School have launched their own Christmas single as part of their bid to raise £35,000 to create a sensory room to help pupils and members of the community with additional needs.
With only £3,000 left to go before they reach their fundraising target, the school are hoping their Christmas CD will help them finish a fantastic year of fundraising.
The CD includes three tracks, including one original song "Christmas is Coming" which was written by the school's Technician Manager Nigel Milligan.
He said: "Each year the school organises something for the parents for Christmas, such as personalised Christmas cards.
"But this year we wanted to do something a bit different and came up with the idea of doing a song.
"We asked the pupils for their ideas and they wanted to focus on helping others as it's the Catholic church's year of mercy.
"We started working on it early in the year, getting ideas together in January and February.
"Then we had a portable recording studio in the school during summer and we've finished the mixing and editing in time for Christmas."
The song, which is also available to download on iTunes, was recorded by the whole school and will be performed in the run up to Christmas at a variety of events.
The CD also contains two other tracks, Early Years and Key Stage One performing "Jingle Bells" and Key Stage Two's version of "Silent Night".
Mr Milligan continued: "The pupils have all really enjoyed getting involved in the project.
"It might not make it to number one but we hope it will have a big impact on our fundraising for the sensory room."
Develop
The school has been fundraising throughout the year to create the state-of-the-art sensory room, which will help pupils with educational needs develop their skills and provide a safe space where children can learn away from the classroom.
The sensory room is set to include an interactive floor projection system, lights, a colour wheel, bubble column and light-up ball pool.
To donate to the school's fundraising total, visit www.justgiving.com/stherberts-school or text HERB16 along with the amount to be donated to 70070. CDs are available to purchase from the school.
