A RECKLESS driver performed a hand-brake turn at a road junction... slamming into a car carrying a mum and her two children.

Police are investigating after the driver sped off from the scene of the crash on a busy Oldham road - the whole incident was captured on CCTV.

Catherine Greenwood was driving along Chestnut Street in Chadderton with her nine-month-old son and two-year-old daughter when a Fiat Punto swerved right in front of her.

She slammed on the brakes in the Volkswagen Passat to try to avoid crashing - but the silver Punto, which came out of Bardsley Street, smashed into the front corner of the car.

The car then drove off back up Bardsley Street.

Footage of the crash which happened last Wednesday, was captured by a neighbour on CCTV and is now being investigated by police.

Catherine, 34, of Chadderton, said she was shaken after the crash.

She said: "Luckily we weren't a second in front otherwise it would have smashed into the side of the car and that would have really shaken the children up."

Residents came out after the hearing the loud bang to check on Catherine.

She added: "I'm still really shaken by it. We were in the wrong place. Luckily we weren't hurt.

"But there could have been people walking along the road. Why were they doing something like that anyway?"

Greater Manchester Police said they were called to reports of a failed-to-stop collision at 1.30pm.

Anyone with information about the car, or the crash, is asked to ring 101 quoting reference 949 of November 9, 2016.
