STRONGER TOGETHER . . . The launch of 1-2-3 Give campaign this morning at Revolution Radio with Lisa Pearson (Dr Kershaw's), Alex Herod (MAHDLO) and Clare Taylor (Action Together).
HELPING Oldham's fantastic charities is as easy as one, two, three, with the launch of a joint fundraising campaign this year.
Dr Kershaw's Hospice, Mahdlo Youth Zone and Action Oldham Fund are joining forces for 1 2 3 Give, a week-long event showcasing the three great causes, how they make a difference in the borough and how you can get involved in supporting them.
Beginning on November 29 to coincide with #GivingTuesday, an international day of charity action following the shopping excesses of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the three charities will be joining together for one joint fundraising appeal.
And thanks to Sir Norman Stoller, all the money raised during the fundraising week will be doubled by the Stoller Charitable Trust and split equally between each charity.
Sir Norman said: "The three charities are organisations close to my heart and I was excited when I heard about this new project to work together.
"This town has always had a fantastic record when it comes to the people of the Oldham Borough giving to charitable causes and millions of pounds are raised every year to deliver vital work in many sectors both locally and beyond.
'Delighted'
"I wish the '1-2-3 Give' initiative every success and the Stoller Charitable Trust is delighted to be able to match fund all the money raised.
"I would urge businesses and community organisations to get behind '1-2-3 Give' - the businesses of Oldham are the real lifeblood of the town and can lead the way in giving something back to the communities in which they work and prosper.
"Please give generously as this money really does go a long way to improving the lives of Oldham people."
During the fundraising week, the Oldham Chronicle will be featuring case studies from each charity, including volunteers, projects and events that make a difference in Oldham, as well as stories from those who have been helped by the charities themselves.
To support the campaign is as easy as one two three:
1: Donate to support three great causes in Oldham
2: Double the money thanks to Stoller Charitable Trust
3: Make a Difference to three great local causes.
Lisa Pearson, income generation manager at Dr Kershaw's Hospice, said: "Dr Kershaw's Hospice has played an important part in the Oldham community for over 25 years and we rely heavily on that community for its support, both financially and in terms of giving time to help us.
"Action Oldham Fund and Mahdlo are the other two major charities in the borough and in lots of ways we help each other, whether that's by providing volunteering opportunities, helping people to find volunteering opportunities, or helping people with their own personal development.
Community
"So, this year throughout the week of #GivingTuesday we wanted to highlight what we do, how we complement each other and the benefits to our community of having these three great causes on their doorstep."
Claire Crossfield, Mahdlo's Development Manager, said: "We are incredibly proud to be working with Dr Kershaw's and Action Together on this campaign.
"Between us, we are privileged to be working with and supporting the people of Oldham at various stages in their lives.
"Mahdlo provides a safe, exciting environment to inspire young people.
"We are currently supporting over 4,800 young people and this number is growing year on year.
"The demand for our services from young people and their families means that our fundraising challenge also increases.
"Without the financial support from our patrons and the local community and the countless hours our volunteers give, we could not continue.
"1-2-3 Give is a fantastic way for us to raise awareness of these causes, generate much-needed support and also acknowledge the impactful ways in which we can work together for the greater benefit of our town."
