AWARDS chance . . . Radclyffe School headteacher Hardial Hayer
AN OLDHAM head teacher is in the running to win a prestigious award for his contribution to the profession.
Hardial Hayer, of The Radclyffe School, Hunt Lane, Chadderton, will attend a glittering awards ceremony at The Guild Hall in London, where he will find out if he has been named Headteacher of the Year in a Secondary School at the Pearson Teaching Awards.
Mr Hayer was nominated for the accolade by students, parents and colleagues in the Radclyffe School community.
Passion
In June this year, he was recognised for his exceptional contribution to the teaching profession as one of just 52 Silver Teaching Award winners in the UK. Sunday's event could possibly see him winning the gold award.
Organisers said he has shown a total commitment to his students, his staff and his local community, and with that a passion to deliver excellent outcomes in the same place for 20 years.
Mr Hayer said: "I'm delighted I have been nominated. The nomination is a recognition of the journey that The Radclyffe School has been on. It says something about everyone at the school. I'm really pleased for the staff and the students and the whole school community.
"I'm looking forward to a celebration of these teaching awards with other people who have been nominated. It's a great honour to be able to represent Oldham."
The ceremony will be hosted by comedian Hugh Dennis and will be broadcast on BBC2 on October 30 at 6pm.
