FLEET-FOOTED contestants really stepped it up when they battled it out to be crowned best dancer while raising money for Dr Kershaw's.

Returning for a second year, Strictly Kershaw's saw six novice dancers show off their moves as they made their bid for the title at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

The dancers had been training with Madd for Dance in preparation for the glittering occasion.

As well as being wowed by the tango and quickstep, revellers were treated to a buffet platter on extravagantly-decorated tables to add to the black-tie event.

Prize

Partners Paul Firth and Dawn Evans scooped first prize on the night.

Vicki Lee, a spokeswoman for Dr Kershaw's, said: "It went really well and the quality of the dancing was really good.

"The night ran really smoothly. I think those who attended really enjoyed themselves and the dancers who went through the 12-week course did as well.

"The event helps us raise awareness for our cause and gives something that is a little bit different in the community. There was so much commitment from the school to take time out to train all our dancers so we are really grateful to them."

The night proved to be a success as those who attended took to Facebook to show their appreciation for the effort that went into the dance.

Joanne Godfrey said: "What a fantastic event - so much thought, time and effort . . . a memorable evening.

"The atmosphere was electric and everyone was so warm and friendly. Loved it."

Sean Maders, who was involved with the event, wrote: "Big thanks to Madd for Dance, everyone who took part and everyone who came and supported the event.

I Love Shaw Facebook page posted: "The dancers pulled out all the stops. Such a wonderful evening. Huge thanks to all involved."

Dr Kershaw's is still calculating the amount raised.
