A MAN was taken to hospital with head injuries after an accident involving a camper van in Union Street.
The man suffered serious bleeding to the head and was attended by paramedics who arrived at the scene shortly after 3.20pm.
Trams stopped running between Westwood and Oldham Mumps while police cleared the scene yesterday.
Eye-witness Chris Walker said: "We were walking down the road and I heard a thump.
"When I looked up I saw him keel over.
"It is grim.
"I didn't see the impact because I was looking down but I heard it.
"I rushed over and phoned the ambulance."
Steven Gartside, who works at Andy's Autoparts in Union Street, said: "I was on the phone and saw a camper van stop.
"I looked out of the window and saw the man lying on the floor."
The Riviera camper van involved in the collision pulled over at the side of the road close to the Royal Oak Hotel following the incident.
Felicity Martin, from Ashton, said: "I turned the corner in my car and saw a man lying in the road.
"He was in a bad way but he was conscious.
"I pulled over and waited while a man called the ambulance."
