THREE and a half miles of a road with "deep structural issues" is being resurfaced in a £2.2million investment to make it safer and quieter.
The project, which started October 3 and is likely to finish in January, will see the A663 Broadway resurfaced from the junction with the A627 at Holden Fold to Moston Lane East, south of junction 21, M60.
Highways England is investing £2.2million to improve the road by making it smoother and safer for drivers and also quieter for residents.
Part of the work will see the old asphalt replaced with a low-noise, smooth surface, and worn road markings with new ones.
Studs and traffic detector loops and manhole covers will also be replaced.
Sections of Broadway which were resurfaced earlier this year will have additional work carried out to replace manhole covers but not to resurface it again.
The work will be carried out Monday to Friday nights from 8pm - 5am with some weekend working between 8pm and 7am.
Between November 7 and Christmas work will only take place from Monday to Wednesday.
John Lyssejko, project manager, said: "Currently Broadway is in a poor state of repair with chips, fretting and potholes and deep structural issues in places. We need to get in there and get it sorted for the benefit of drivers and residents.
He said: "We work at night to keep traffic disruption to a minimum. We will keep residents fully informed when work is taking place in their neighbourhood, and aim to keep noise to a minimum.
He added: "When the work is complete, drivers will have a much smoother ride and residents should notice a difference in noise levels from the road.
"A smooth, low-noise surface will make it much quieter for those who live nearby."
