AN Oldham cardboard manufacturer has launched a national partnership enabling retail, logistics and manufacturing firms to repackage returned goods more quickly and efficiently.

Ribble Packaging’s service, Big Fish Logistics runs with Italian box machinery specialist Panotec and the UK’s Bibby Distribution. Businesses can recapture the lost value of returned items by repackaging them for resale - and save more with reduced packaging and transport costs.

The repackaging system can also be applied to other sectors, from parts suppliers to fulfilment warehouses.

Big Fish was launched by Ribble at a trade event with guests from Ebay, Shop Direct, Express Gifts and other companies.

Ribble claims the UK economy loses around £6billion a year in poor returns management, especially since the massive growth of online sales. Retailers have to sell goods in perfect condition at discounted prices merely because the box might be damaged.

Ribble has invested £3.5 million in its manufacturing facilities at Greengate Street.

Panotec machinery permits a manufacture-on-demand facilty: one-off boxes can be produced in a vast range of sizes without complicated and expensive set-up.

The service will allow companies to get Big Fish to repackage returned goods, or major companies to install the machinery themselves with Big Fish offering supplies and support.

Several major retailers are already showing interest.
