Have your say on Great North Plan

BUSINESSES are being reminded to help shape the future of the north’s economy by contributing to the development of a “Great North Plan”, capable of delivering changes needed for a Northern Powerhouse.
Research body IPPR North and the Royal Town Planning Institute are asking businesses, planners, academics, councils, groups and individuals to share their thoughts about whether the region needs a plan and what it should contain.
The consultation will look at topics beyond transport, including innovation, skills and higher education.
Ed Cox, director at IPPR North, said: “The North needs infrastructure projects capable of genuinely transforming the northern economy as it makes the journey from an industrial past to a more connected future. Investing in infrastructure is essential to competing in the global economy.
“The Government’s focus on the Northern Powerhouse means the region has a unique opportunity to shape its destiny and tip the balance in the North’s favour.”
The deadline for submissions — maximum 5,000 words — is September 30, by email to: infrastructure@ippr.org,
