YEARS of hard work at college and getting a foothold in the industry were proving frustrating for beauty therapist Nikki-Leigh Morris.
Not any more — the 19-year-old is now the proud owner of her own studio in Farrow Street East, off Market Street, in the centre of Shaw.
The Nikki-Leigh Studio specialises in beauty treatments and pamper parties — and with volunteer help from mum Debbie grandmother Denise Taylor, the business is really taking off.
And two members of staff have been already been taken on to deal with an increasing client list.
In total, to lease the premises and fit out the reception and private treatment rooms, investment in the business stands at £12,000.
Much of the money has come from Nikki-Leigh’s parents, Debbie and Craig. Debbie said: “My daughter left college in June and my husband and I wanted to help her out as she was struggling to find permanent work in her chosen career.
“We intend to make Nikki-Leigh Studio the place to come in Shaw to relax and be pampered.”
To complement the beauty business, Debbie has opened her own photographic studio, having exclusive use of the premises when the salon is closed and also taking commissions in the evenings.
Nikki said: “We have all worked really hard over the last few months, painting, fixing the ceiling and the flooring. We have been delighted with the level of business so far.” Nikki-Leigh is also a part-time model and has featured in magazines.
She has also completed a Level Three diploma in theatrical and media, make-up and hair to complement the traditional offering of waxes, manicures and pedicures, nail and eye treatments, spay-tanning and specialist wedding make-up.
