Race is a piece of cake
MORE than 80 runners tackled the annual Cake Race on Saturday setting out from the Diggle Hotel and covering 10 miles and 1,700 feet of climbing.
And after crossing the finish line they were revived by tea and slices of cake at the race headquarters in Kiln Green Church.
The event is organised annually by Saddleworth Runners, and covers tracks and trails on the moors above Diggle.
Club members also bake a variety of cakes and the winner of the best one gets a special trophy, before they are sliced up for the runners.
This year runners travelled from Glasgow and Leicestershire to take part.
The winner was Jason Williams of Charnwood Athletic Club, and first Saddleworth Runners were Colin Bishop, sixth, and Claire Wightman who was 32nd.
