Stuart Littler has challenged the Oldham Roughyeds players to show ‘togetherness’ this Sunday against Widnes in our first warm-up game of the season.
A large chunk of pre-season has gone into building a team-spirit and camaraderie within the squad through alternative sessions such as boxing with Anthony Crolla and training with olympic wrestler Charlie Bowling at Farmer Strong.
As pre-season moves into the next phase with more game-based training, Oldham's head coach is looking for the lads to put into practice what they have shown over the last few weeks.
Said Littler: “I’m looking forward to the boys getting out there in front of the fans and trying to build some momentum.
“They’re [Widnes] coached well as an organisation and it’s definitely going to be a stern challenge this week.
“My big focus is seeing the systems and structures that are being put into place and making sure we’re together as a team, no matter which team goes on the field.
“We’ve done different things through pre-season to try to build a team mentality and the togetherness is coming.
“Every time we come to training we’re challenging ourselves to be a better version of ourselves and be a better team."
This year, play-off chasing Widnes have recruited strongly after acquiring the likes of Kyle Amor, Kieran Dixon, Tom Gilmore and Ryan Millar.
And they will be looking to build on their 46-6 victory over Rochdale Hornets in which Joe Edge, the Vikings academy product, scored a hat-trick of tries.
Tickets are available for the game on Sunday (January 22, 3pm kick off) and can be purchased at the Roughyeds' ticketing page.
Admission prices are £12 for adults, £3 for students and FREE for under 16s, with a transfer to seats costing £1.
Match-day hospitality is also available at £30 per head.
Please call the office on 07904 898177 or email: enquiries@roughyeds.co.uk to book.
Fans will be able to pay on the day for the game this Sunday, as well as the Law Cup match against Rochdale Hornets next week.
