Kershaw extends stay at Oldham

Wakefield Trinity's young winger Lee Kershaw, whose latest one-month loan deal at Oldham expired after Sunday's game at Hunslet, has signed a new agreement to stay at Oldham for the rest of the season.

Wakefield can recall him at any time, as they can with full-back Luke Hooley, who is also with Roughyeds to the end of the season.

The two 19-year-olds are gaining experience while playing regularly in Betfred League 1.

Said Oldham boss Scott Naylor: "This is good for the club.  It will give us choices at weekend.

"Lee has done well for us up to now. He's young, but he's learning the game very quickly.

"It's good for him to be playing regularly in a tough division and it's good for Wakefield to have him playing for us.

"It suits all parties, in fact."

Kershaw has scored four tries in eight games for Oldham and he should have had two more against Hunslet, but the first was disallowed for a forward final pass and the second chance was ruled out because he lost control of the ball as he shaped to touch down.

Six senior Oldham players are doubtful for Sunday's home game against Workington --- the worst injury situation since last year's battle for Championship survival was crippled by casualties.

The current list reads like this:

ADAM NEAL, sees a specialist this week about concussion that has kept him sidelined since April.

BEN DAVIES, having shaken off back trouble, he now has a perforated ear drum.

PHIL JOY, rib cartilage.

DANNY LANGTREE, pulled a hamstring in training.

DANNY BRIDGE, damaged a knee at Hunslet.

KENNY HUGHES, ankle ligament problems.

Said Naylor: "It's amazing how your luck can change overnight.

"When we went to West Wales at the end of May we had a clean bill of health. We then had a week off, but since we came back in we've had nothing but bad luck.

"It's impossible to say at this stage if any of them will be cleared by Sunday, but we'll be soldiering on and hoping for the best."

Workington are coached by Leon Pryce, a former Bradford Bulls colleague of Naylor's and still a good friend.

Roughyeds won 32-10 at Derwent Park in April, but the Cumbrians have done well since and are now in fifth place, only two points and two places behind Naylor's men.

Last Sunday they hammered Hemel Stags 60-12 and they hope to be strengthened at the Vestacare Stadium by the addition of new month-long loan signing Ben Morris from St Helens.

Morris, who had a spell at Oldham last year, plays second-row or centre.
