Roughyeds' winning streak is over

Oldham’s eight-game winning streak came to an abrupt end at the South Leeds Stadium as Hunslet claimed a 16-12 victory.

The Roughyeds battled until the final hooter in an effort to snatch a win of their own but poor finishing near the line thwarted their efforts.

Luke Hooley opened the scoring for Oldham in the 13th minute, going over on the right after a quick-fire pass from Zack McComb. Crook failed to convert from near the touchline.

Hunslet hit back through Zac Braham on the 21st minute and led 6-4 after a successful conversion from Joe Sanderson. A Crook penalty restored parity before Matty Wilkinson crashed over from dummy-half to give Oldham a 12-6 interval lead.

The second half belonged to the hosts who prevented Oldham from adding to their score.

Opportunities went begging as Lee Kershaw knocked on over the line and Matt Reid was unable to reach a Dave Hewitt kick.

Hunslet levelelled the scores through a converted Mvududu try before a 60 metre break by Zack Braham allowed Cain Southernwood to go over from close range with 7 minutes remaining.

Oldham threw everything they had at Hunslet but the final pass went astray on a number of occasions and the hosts were able to hang on for the win.
