Latics' promotion push is back on track thanks to victory at Sutton

Impressive Latics got their National League promotion push back on track with a 3-1 victory at Sutton United.

The visitors saw a four-match winning streak and eight-match unbeaten run in the league ended by a 3-2 home loss to Solihull last time out, but their triumph at Sutton moved them to within four points of leaders Barnet.

Latics took an 18th-minute lead at the VBS Community Stadium when leading scorer Mike Fondop headed in Mark Kitching’s cross for his sixth goal of the campaign.

Sutton levelled straight after half-time through Will Davies, who pounced after the ball had come back off the woodwork, but Oldham would not be denied and Charlie Raglan’s header quickly restored their lead before James Norwood nodded home in stoppage time to wrap things up for Micky Mellon’s side.

Boss Mellon said: "This is a tough place to come.

"You have to be good at what the game's going to ask you, get your head around that and show the right attitude and get proper results like we did today,"

Latics' next fixture is away again, on Tuesday night, when they travel to Maidenhead United.
