Latics have announced the signing of veteran Peter Clarke from Walsall.
The 40-year-old returns to Latics on a loan until January 1, 2023.
Latics boss David Unsworth is ecstatic to have someone with so much quality and experience in a key position.
He said: “Peter’s a player I know very well, I played alongside him many years ago.
“He’s had an impeccable career, and I know how well loved he was during his last spell here.
"He's here to play, not to coach or cheerlead, and he's a top addition."
A player who needs no introduction to Latics fans, Clarke is just a few appearances away from the 900 game mark.
He first joined Latics in 2016, having played for a host of clubs, including Huddersfield and Southend.
The partnership between him and Connor Ripley was key to Latics keeping 18 clean sheets in the 2016/17 season, helping Ripley equal Les Pogliacomi’s record from the 2006/07 season.
On returning to Boundary Park, Clarke said: "It feels really good to be back, it's been a little while since I've been here but I've got really fond memories of the club.
"The support for me from the fans has always been first class, they get behind us home and away and I'm really looking forward to playing here once again."
