Unsworth fumes after Altrincham defeat

It was a difficult night at Altrincham for Latics
Latics failed to build on their impressive weekend win against Yeovil as they slid to a hugely disappointing 1-0 reverse at Altrincham in the National League last night (Tuesday).
Chris Conn-Clarke notched the only goal in the second half at Moss Lane as Latics were sent back down to 18th place in the table.
Altrincham leap-frogged Latics in the standings courtesy of their deserved victory.
Latics boss David Unsworth was furious after the game, admitting that he was 'not surprised' by the outcome.
He added: "We took a slight step forward on Saturday, but this was a major step back.
"It's very difficult to be protective over the players.
"I am, though, and I always will be because they're my responsibility, but how can you protect them after what my eyes have just seen?
"It was ugly for both teams. We should be coming here and saying 'okay, we got a point and we move on', but it's been a big step back and there's no denying that.
"I can't defend the indefensible."
A frenetic start to proceedings saw Latics go close when Ben Tollitt saw his effort go just over the crossbar.
Altrincham also had an early chance when Eddy Jones cut in from the left, but his shot was saved by Magnus Norman.
Alty broke the deadlock with just under 20 minutes left on the clock when Conn-Clarke smashed into the top corner from 20 yards in spectacular fashion.
Latics missed a big chance to equalise in the dying seconds when Conor Carty got on the end of a cross, but his goalbound shot went into the grateful grasp of Oliver Byrne.
Latics return to action on Saturday with a trip to FC Halifax Town.
