Tollitt spot-kick rescues a point for Latics

A late penalty from Ben Tollitt rescued a point for Latics last night as they drew 2-2 at home against Scunthorpe in the National League.

On-loan striker David Okagbue headed in Tollitt's corner to give Latics a seventh-minute lead.

Scunthorpe levelled after 26 minutes when Joe Nuttall seized on a Latics mistake to steer his shot beyond goalkeeper Magnus Norman.

Rob Apter benefited from more indecisive home defending on the stroke of half-time after Nuttall's effort had been blocked.

Latics' second-half pressure was rewarded 15 minutes from time when Mike Fondop was bundled over and Tollitt converted from the spot to keep the Iron in the National League relegation zone.

Latics are just two points clear of the drop zone in 16th place.

New manager David Unsworth is still looking for his first win since taking over three games ago.

"We're taking a bit of pain at the moment," he said.

"I'll take all that.

"I don't want the players to take that, I'll take it all.

"My shoulders are big and I can burden that.

"But what I can't have is people crumbling on the pitch.

"That's not what we're all about and that's not what my team's about either."

Latics return to action on Saturday when they travel to Maidenhead United.
