Last-gasp Wrexham penalty winner stuns Latics

Latics - Wrexham
Latics were stunned by Paul Mullin's last-gasp penalty winner for Wrexham at a packed Boundary Park.
David Unsworth's first home game in charge was going perfectly to plan as Mike Fondop's goal was the difference until the 85th minute, but then the Welshmen turned the game on its head with two late strikes.
Their victory took the big-spending outfit to the top of the National League table.
Latics dropped down to 17th in the standings.
Unsworth's men dominated early on and ex-Wrexham striker Fondop took advantage of Ben Tozer's mistake to score.
Wrexham improved after the break with chances for Elliott Lee and Jordan Davies, before Tozer equalised.
Mullin then converted a stoppage-time penalty after Luke Young was fouled to break Latics hearts.
Meanwhile, on the eve of the Wrexham fixture, Latics announced the appointment of John Ebbrell as the club’s new assistant manager.
The 52-year-old, who was assistant to Unsworth in the Under-23 set-up at Everton, joins Latics with a vast amount of playing and coaching experience.
Ebbrell’s arrival follows the appointment of Francis Jeffers as first team coach and B-team manager, completing Unsworth’s backroom staff.
Latics return to action on Tuesday (4th) when they host Scunthorpe United.
