Unsworth's reign off to a losing start

David Unsworth's first game in charge of Latics ended in a comprehensive 3-0 defeat at in-form Bromley.

The hosts brushed aside Latics as they moved up to fifth after back-to-back victories.

The home side threatened from the outset, with Michael Cheek and Byron Webster going close in the early stages.

They eventually broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute when Omar Sowunmi got on the end of a long throw and slotted home from close range.

Bromley doubled their lead six minutes later when Jude Arthurs set up Reece Hannam and he smashed the ball past goalkeeper Magnus Norman.

Junior Luamba had a chance for Unsworth's men, but his shot went wide, and the Ravens got their third of the game through a Mike Fondop own goal just before the hour.

Unsworth said after the game: "There's lots to do and it's all work on the training ground that we need to instil in the players and it'll take a little bit of time.

"I'm not having one of my teams being a soft touch, but in fairness to the players they kept going."

Latics, who slipped to 15th place in the National League table, are next in action on Saturday when they host high-flying Wrexham.
