Sheridan bows out on a high

Former Latics boss John Sheridan
John Sheridan enjoyed a perfect end to his latest reign as Latics manager as his team sealed a thrilling 3-2 National League win against Eastleigh.
Sheridan bowed out - with David Unsworth still the favourite to replace him - on an emotional afternoon at Boundary Park as the home fans gave him a rousing send-off at the end of an incredible SIXTH stint as boss.
Appearing to call time on a long and distinguished career in football, Sheridan (57) said: "I won't manage another team.
"I don't think I'll get the opportunity anyway.
"I love football. It's looked after me. I just feel that my age and for me to try to be happier it is time to concentrate on other things.
"Being honest I don't think I've done that well the last couple of years, whereas I had a really good record, I'm very grateful I got the opportunity. And I'm so pleased it's Oldham.
"I haven't achieved anything but I just want the club to go forward."
Last week Latics announced Sheridan would step down as manager by mutual consent after yesterday's match.
Latics took the lead three minutes in when Ben Tollitt picked out Luke Burgess in the box and he tucked home.
The Spitfires levelled in the 29th minute when Magnus Norman saved Danny Whitehall's shot, but the forward was able to score the rebound, before he added a second nine minutes later with a volley.
Latics equalised in the 65th minute when Dan Gardner put a cross into the box and Mike Fondop was there to tap in.
Charlie Wellens then found the winner for Latics in the 89th minute with a strike from a tight angle to finish Sheridan's time in charge on a huge high.
