Latics thumped at Woking

Latics boss John Sheridan was apologetic after his stuttering side slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Woking last night (Tuesday).

Latics slid to a lowly 16th place in the National League table following a second defeat on the spin.

"I'm not someone who makes excuses," said Sheridan.

"We've still got enough players out there today to go and get a result, young lads in the team who have come in on loan, it's a tough league to come in and learn the game.

"It's a learning curve, but we've got to learn quickly.

"We've got to do a lot better.

"It's nowhere near good enough."

Mike Fondop hit the crossbar for Latics, and saw a goal ruled out by the officials, but those were the highlights of an otherwise dreadful night for the travelling supporters.

Former Southampton striker Tyreke Johnson opened the scoring for the Cards in the 19th minute as he fired low after beating two defenders in the box.

Nine minutes later it was 2-0 when Luke Wilkinson headed home from a corner.

Johnson wrapped up an impressive three points before the hour when he lashed home after Josh Casey and Jim Kellerman combined.

Latics next play on Saturday when they host Eastleigh.
