Latics pull off an impressive win against Mansfield in League Two

Date published: 29 January 2020

Oldham gained revenge on Mansfield with a dominant display on their way to a League Two victory at Boundary Park.

Dino Maamria's side, who lost 6-1 at Field Mill in the reverse fixture in October, were by far the better side throughout and netted through Jonny Smith, Tom Hamer and Gevaro Nepomuceno, before a late Otis Khan consolation.

Nepomuceno and David Wheater both worked Mansfield goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik before the opening goal arrived after 23 minutes, when Smith retrieved the ball and worked it onto his left foot before hitting a low angled drive into the far corner.

Oldham doubled their lead two minutes before half-time when a Smith corner was met by Hamer's left-foot volley, the ball heading in off the far post.

Mansfield fell three behind after 58 minutes when Nepomuceno cut in from the right flank and fired in a superb left-footed effort from 20 yards.

Mansfield substitute Khan converted from close range for a consolation strike in the third minute of added time, but Oldham were comfortable winners in ending a run of seven without victory.
