George Edmundson played in 54 games last season
A bidding war appears to have started as three teams battle it out for the services of Oldham Athletic’s George Edmundson.
The Express newspaper is reporting Latics have rejected the latest bid from Scottish club Rangers with the fee, believed to be in the region of £500,000, deemed not enough even with the deal including a number of add-ons.
It’s also understood bids have also been tabled by Championship side Wigan Athletic and Hull City, both have been knocked back by the Boundary Park side.
The newspaper is reporting the 21-year old would prefer a move north of the border and has already rejected a new improved deal to stay at Latics, making it clear he’s played his last game for the club.
The latest rejection of a bid from the Ibrox outfit is an improved offer on their last bid, believed to be £400,000, but bosses in Scotland are said to be keen to sign the defender, although they have warned they won’t be held to ransom for his services.
Edmundson shown last season in an Oldham Athletic shirt, appearing in 54-games for the club including their 2-1 win at Fulham in the third round of the FA Cup. He was also voted into the League Two team of the year.
The Oldham Evening Chronicle understands Oldham Athletic are keen to cash in on Edmundson, who came through the club’s academy, and with the 21-year old only having one year left on his deal, they’ll need to do it this summer or risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.
