Grecians are firmly in Athletic's sights

As the feel-good factor continues to gather momentum at Boundary Park, Athletic can hand fans another major shot in the arm tomorrow by beating Exeter City at home and hopefully firing themselves into the League Two play-off positions.

Frankie Bunn’s side are unbeaten in six matches in the league and have a mouth-watering FA Cup third round tie at Premier League Fulham on January 6 to look forward to.

Three points tomorrow would lift Athletic above the Grecians, who currently occupy the final play-off spot.

“Our performances have been really good, and they have been for the last six or seven weeks,” said Bunn, previewing his team’s 23rd league fixture – the season’s half-way point.

“Even during that time we've drawn a couple of games that we should have won, but confidence is growing.

“Belief more than anything is helping, they're starting to believe in themselves.

“We always believed in them and I think we can still get better, so we'll keep on pushing them until we get there.”

Bunn isn’t considering the context of the table as it stands - he’s just focusing on getting the three points.

“They're all big games and we've said before we take each game as it comes,” added Bunn.

“We don't look too far ahead of ourselves and the next game is always an important one.

“It's nice to be on the back of a good run and a great result against Bury, but we have to move on, so we're just focusing on Exeter at the minute.”

It’s been a busy week at Boundary Park with close to 3,500 tickets being sold for the Cup tie with Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Bunn was once again full of praise for the fans who have been in fine voice over the past few months, and he says the team appreciate the support.

He said: “They've been great, and we can't compliment them enough, they've been fully behind us.

“Even when we had a bit of a wobble against Bury, they stuck with us and players need that which helps, so I hope they can keep on getting behind the boys.”

Front-man Ishmael Miller is available again tomorrow as he has now served his three-match suspension.
