Dramatic late fightback earns Athletic a point

Two goals in a frantic final five minutes at Boundary Park earned Athletic a share of spoils against fellow League Two high-fliers Colchester.

Frankie Bunn's men battled back from 2-0 and then 3-1 down to bag a well-deserved point after what was a cracking advertisement for fourth tier football in front of an enthralled 4,000-plus crowd.

The U's went ahead when Brennan Dickenson's corner was helped on to the back post for Luke Norris to stab in from six yards.

It was 2-0 soon after half-time as the hosts failed to clear another Dickenson corner, giving Harry Pell the chance to drive high into the net from 16 yards.

Prospects look grim at that stage, but Athletic replied as Sam Surridge applied a simple finish at the far post to convert Andy Taylor's cross.

However, Norris struck again when he forced his way into the penalty area and drilled home his sixth goal of the campaign.

Surridge also completed a personal double as he glanced in Dan Gardner's free-kick and, with two minutes left  to play, Taylor's corner was powered in by the head of Oldham captain Peter Clarke to ensure the honours ended even.
