Bunn ready for a tough test at Grimsby

Athletic will be determined to bounce back in their latest League Two task at Grimsby Town tomorrow.

Frankie Bunn’s side are now seven games into the new campaign following last season’s nightmare relegation, and they’ve started encouragingly.

A fourth win of the season tomorrow at Blundell Park would more than likely lift Athletic back into the play-off positions, and most fans appear happy again.

Bunn, appointed in June to replace the sacked Richie Wellens, insists his players are in a good place and feeling confident, but League Two clearly hasn’t been an easy nut to crack so far.

“It’s (League Two) been tougher than I expected, it really has,” admitted Bunn.

“The physical side has stood out for me, and the different types of football that we’ve been seeing.

“At times some of the opposition have been very direct, but overall we’re coping with them.

“We just try and prepare for each game as it comes, and try our best to overcome each team.

“It’ll be tough at Grimsby.

“They’ll be hurting, smarting even following last weekend’s result at Bury.

“They have taken some good points from good teams earlier this season, though, so it’s certainly not a game we can take lightly.

“I don’t think you can in any game in this league – we just have to make sure we’re right and concentrate everything on what we’re doing.

“If we prepare right we’ll always have a good chance against anyone.”

Athletic will welcome back goalkeeper Daniel Iversen and midfielder Gevaro Nepomuceno from international duty tomorrow.

Both enjoyed success with their nations - Denmark U-21 and Curaçao respectively – this week.

Iversen kept back-to-back clean sheets with a 2-0 win over Finland U-21s as well as another 2-0 win away at Lithuania to leave Denmark top of their group in the European U-21 qualifying campaign.

Meanwhile in the Caribbean, Nepomuceno was part of Curaçao CONCACAF Nations League opener in the early hours of Tuesday morning where he bagged his third goal in as many games for club and country in the empathic 10-0 over Grenada.

He netted the sixth Curaçao goal and also set up three others for team-mates.
