Pre-orders are already racking up as Inspiral Carpets fans far and wide gear up for the release of the iconic Oldham band’s ‘Complete Singles’ release on vinyl and CD.
March 17 is the precise date of release, when all of the Carpets’ 24 remastered singles will be on one album for the first time.
UK hits ‘This is how it feels’, ‘Dragging me down’, ‘Saturn Five’ and ‘I want you’ (featuring Mark E Smith) will all be on there of course, among so many others (see full list below).
Released through the Mute/BMG label, the triple CD offering will feature an exclusive bonus remix CD curated by bass player Martyn Walsh (who has opted against being involved in the forthcoming live shows).
The CD boasts brand new remixes by The Go! Team and an exclusive mix by Martyn and Simon Lyon.
Vinyl fanatic and founding Inspiral Carpets member, Oldham-based guitarist Graham Lambert, is clearly excited about the forthcoming release from the late 80s and 1990s town heroes.
He told the Chronicle: “We’ve released two singles albums previously, but this really is the definitive singles collection so far.
“It’s got the very first single – ‘Keep the circle around’ – from July 1988 to the most recent ‘Let you down’ from January, 2015.
“It’s got every single on there, and with vinyl being back in vogue – well, for some of us it never went out of vogue – it’s great, sat here just look at the package of a double album, with retro-looking sleeves, detailing every single we’ve ever done.
“Who knows, there might be more, but certainly for now it’s a fantastic package and we’re looking
forward to touring these songs.”
Graham went on to explain that it just seemed to make sense to release the ‘Complete Singles’ album to coincide with the band’s forthcoming UK tour – so far they have over 30 gigs to play all over the globe as we move further into 2023.
Graham added: “We had been working on another project, but we felt it made more sense to release a singles album to coincide with the tour.
“By hook or by crook we landed at doing a singles tour, but now we’re doing the album too, and it fits together perfectly.
“It’s a thank you to the fans, and there’s been a great reaction to the news since we announced it.
“Every time we do a set live, it tends to be a singles set, but now there’s 24 tracks on the vinyl album, we know we can chop and change a bit once the tour comes around.
“Our fans have always been great, they’ve always been respectful about what’s happened over the last few years, and it seems that everyone is back on board for the gigs this year – it’s really exciting.”
