Inspirational ambulance service women set to visit schools

It's International Women's Day on Wednesday

Inspirational women who have built a career with North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) are visiting hundreds of school children across the region this week as they celebrate International Women’s Day with a special motivational talk or workshop.

Women of all ages with a range of careers from HR Advisors to Community Specialist Paramedics are taking to assembly halls and classrooms throughout the week to inspire school children and share their stories of success. 

International Women’s Day is observed globally on March 8 every year and is a celebration of the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women with the aim to promote equality and challenge stereotypes and bias.

Director of Organisational Development for NWAS, Michael Forrest, said: “We think it’s really important that everybody is given equal opportunities and International Women’s Day is a perfect time to celebrate this.

“Children are the future and we want to showcase how rewarding a career in the ambulance services is.

"These successful women have helped shape the service into what it is today and we’re hoping that some of the pupils they speak to will be inspired by their success and one day follow in their footsteps.”

Over 20 women will attend 22 schools in total, each talking about their own personal experiences, some speaking in assemblies whilst others will offer bespoke workshops or attend events all to show that there is so much more to a career in the ambulance service than meets the eye.
